Few military decorations for valor existed when the Civil War began, but that changed on July 12, 1862 when President Lincoln approved creation of the Medal of Honor. This program will provide a detailed history of the award now revered as the nation’s highest military decoration and will also examine some of the Civil War’s most interesting and notable recipients.
