May 31 – Culture and Art: The Art of Henna – Henna, a temporary artwork drawn on the skin, is a major part of some cultures. Henna accompanies engagements, weddings, births, religious events, festivals and everyday life. We will learn a bit about henna/mehndi and will create beautiful designs (for girls and guys) using henna markers and stencils.
June 7 – Culture and Art: Learn the Art of Hip Hop Dance – Learn hip hop moves from two Fine Arts Association (highly awarded) dance students! Wear comfortable clothing.
June 14 – All About You!: Subway Art-Create a piece of art that is YOU! Using magazines we will cut out words and phrases that describe you and your personality to make a collage to decorate your room.
June 21 – Kindness to the Community: “Thank you” baggies to the Police Department—We will fill bags with treats that have special meaning for those who protect us all day, every day. If time and weather permit, we will walk the treats to the department. Completed permission slips required for the walk.
June 28 – Celebrate the USA in Art – Make a 4th of July wreath from clothespins.
July 5 – Tween Take and Make Mystery Bags – Stop in the library all week and grab a craft bag to bring home. Different crafts will be featured throughout the week.
July 12 – Teamwork makes the dream work!–This program challenges tweens to work together, build on each other’s strengths, and communicate effectively to win challenges.
July 19 – Environmental – We will walk from WKPL to Orlando Park, stopping along Rt. 84 to pick up rubbish, helping “Keep Wickliffe Beautiful” to keep Wickliffe beautiful. Drop children off at the library and pick up from Orlando Park. Completed permission slips are required for this program.
July 26 – Water Balloon Bonanza!–Bring a towel. Wear bathing suits or clothes you don’t mind getting very wet. Water balloon fights, homerun derby, and other water games will round out the Summer Reading Program for tweens. (Unless there is pouring rain and thunder/lightning, we will have this program.
